Cybersecurity

Get the security basics right, quickly, then keep building

Many attacks start with something ordinary: a convincing email, a reused password, or a missed update, and one small opening can lead to several more. We quickly help our clients achieve essential cyber hygiene (IG1), the foundational safeguards in the CIS Controls®*, and layer protection on top, so when something gets past one layer, the next one is there.

Threats we help protect you against

Phishing and targeted spear phishing, email account hijacking, fake invoice and payroll change requests, booby-trapped attachments and fake signature requests, fake “verify you are human” prompts that ask staff to paste in a command, misuse of remote-access software, ransomware and other malware, password attacks, and infected websites that strike with a single click.

What you get

  • Know what you have. We keep track of the devices and software on your network, so unknown or outdated devices and software are easier to spot.
  • Lock the doors. Secure settings on the systems we manage, accounts and access kept to the people who need them, two-step sign-in where it fits, and your important data protected.
  • Close the gaps. Scheduled security updates and ongoing attention to known weaknesses, with security assessments and penetration testing available to show where you stand.
  • Layers that help limit the damage. Filtering that keeps staff away from malicious and phishing sites, intrusion blocking at the firewall, and on Gold and Platinum plans, antivirus plus managed EDR with alerts reviewed by a security operations center 24 hours a day, 365 days a year (SOC alert review). Neatoware’s own follow-up and support follow your plan’s response targets.
  • Keep a record. System logs on managed servers are monitored on Silver plans and up, so problems can be traced. For a wider view, SIEM on Gold and Platinum plans brings the logs from your managed servers and workstations together, with activity reviewed, flagged, and escalated by a security operations center.
  • Be ready for the bad day. Backups with encrypted, locked off-site copies, plus disaster recovery planning on Gold and Platinum plans. Need a written incident response plan? We’ll help you write one, and refine it with you until you’re confident in it. The plan is yours, and your people run it. Available on request. Our team members are NIMS trained (National Incident Management System).
  • Make your people part of the defense. Security awareness training for your staff on Gold and Platinum plans. Start today with our free Email Hijack book and a free breach check.

Email fraud goes after your money:

Some of the most damaging attacks are simple requests: a vendor invoice with new bank details, a payroll direct-deposit change, or a request for staff tax forms. A few habits make them much harder to pull off:

  • Check any unexpected payment, invoice, or signature request through a second channel, such as a phone number you already know.
  • Agree on a callback number or code word for urgent requests.
  • Do not enter a sign-in code you did not ask for.
  • Download software only from official sources.

A security path that keeps going

Essential cyber hygiene (IG1) is the starting line, not the finish. Once the basics are in place, we strive to move our clients on to Implementation Group 2 and then Implementation Group 3 with time, adding safeguards as your needs and budget allow. On Gold and Platinum plans, our Virtual CIO services help you plan each step.
